Doctoral Student in Healthcare System Management
A full-time doctoral student position is open at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at the University of Iceland. The position is for three years and is part of an interdisciplinary project, MUSCLE, where the doctoral student will learn and develop skills in applying process management, process analysis, and data processing within the healthcare system (e.g., Lean Healthcare). The MUSCLE project is funded by Horizon Europe - THCS Partnership and action plan (#THCS2025-361). The project's goal is to transform treatment processes for musculoskeletal diseases by applying Lean Healthcare methods to reduce waste, simplify processes, enhance patient-centered services, and improve the utilization of healthcare resources. The doctoral student will work with researchers from the MUSCLE project from the University of Iceland, the Icelandic healthcare system, the University of Skövde (Sweden), the Swedish healthcare system, the University of Mondragón (Spain), the Spanish healthcare system, and the Ministry of Health of Malta. The Icelandic part of the project involves process analysis and processing of health data supporting the MUSCLE objectives, as well as mapping digital solutions. The position includes visits to partners in Sweden, Spain, and Malta.
