Expert in Ecosystem Restoration
The Agricultural University of Iceland is advertising an open position for an expert in ecosystem restoration and sustainable land use, requiring initiative and a solution-oriented mindset. This is a full-time position, with the majority of the work being for the GRÓ International Centre for Sustainable Use of Soil and Water Resources (GRÓ LÁR). GRÓ LÁ is hosted by the Agricultural University of Iceland and is part of GRÓ Centre for Education and Research, operating under UNESCO. The aim of the centre is to train experts working in institutions related to ecosystem restoration and sustainable land use in the centre's partner countries in Africa and Central Asia. GRÓ LÁ is part of Iceland's international development cooperation and is funded by public funds from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for development cooperation. The centre's largest annual project is a 6-month training program in Iceland for active professionals from partner countries, with a strong emphasis on knowledge application. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Participate in the professional development of studies and the structuring of GRÓ LÁ. Teach and participate in the daily organization of the study program. Oversee student research projects in collaboration with supervisors. Participate in projects related to courses and workshops in partner countries. Quality control and follow-up regarding the results of quality assessments. Teach within the department and undertake incidental tasks related to restoration at the Agricultural University of Iceland. Requirements A doctoral degree in ecosystem restoration, ecology, or related fields is desirable. Experience in research and teaching in ecosystem restoration, ecology, or related fields. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Positive, solution-oriented approach and excellent communication skills. Good command of English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of Icelandic is desirable. Salary Salary according to the current collective bargaining agreement between the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and the relevant trade union.
