Glaciology Specialist
The Icelandic Meteorological Office is seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic specialist to participate in research and monitoring of glaciers. This is an exciting and diverse future job where the effects of climate change on glaciers, the interaction between volcanic activity and glaciers, and participation in domestic and international research projects are at the forefront. Monitoring glaciers and responding to natural hazards is also an important part of the job, which also has a direct connection to society. The specialist will work in the service and research department, whose role is to define, shape, lead, and participate in research and development projects, including in cooperation with sister organizations, concerning all major physical aspects of the Earth. The department's projects also relate to general basic research and scientific data processing, modeling, as well as the development of products and methodologies to improve the institution's services. The department's projects are related to, among other things, weather, climate change, avalanches, earthquakes, volcanic activity, crustal movements, hydrology, and glacier management.
