Ranger in Þingeyjarsveit

The Environment Agency is looking for an ambitious and positive individual to work in protected areas in Þingeyjarsveit, including at the Gígur Visitor Centre and in the northern highlands of Vatnajökull National Park. Park rangers perform diverse and important tasks that contribute to the protection of nature, services, and infrastructure. The tasks of park rangers include enhancing infrastructure and care of areas, monitoring the state of the environment, and contributing to ensuring that Iceland remains a unique place. Park rangers play a key role in guiding and educating visitors about nature and encouraging responsible interaction with it. In Þingeyjarsveit, numerous areas are protected, including the nature reserve of Mývatn and Laxá, Dimmuborgir, Skútustaðagígar, and Goðafoss. Park rangers also provide information and education at the Gígur Visitor Centre in Skútustaðir. The northern highlands of Vatnajökull National Park extend from Jökulsá á Fjöllum in the east to Skjálfandafljót in the west and onto Vatnajökull in the south. Lowland ranger stations are at the Gígur Visitor Centre, and highland stations are in Drekagil and Herðubreiðarlindir. This is a permanent shift work position.
