Senior Linux Systems Engineer

1984 Hosting is looking for a highly experienced Linux Systems Engineer to help operate our existing hosting infrastructure and build the next generation of our cloud services. Our environment includes shared hosting, email hosting, VPS infrastructure and a growing public-cloud platform. This is a senior hands-on engineering role for someone who understands Linux in depth and is comfortable taking responsibility for production systems. The role combines systems administration, automation, troubleshooting, performance engineering, security and infrastructure development. You will work both with mature production systems and with new infrastructure being built for 1984's Icelandic public cloud. You will work closely with our storage, networking and software engineers and have significant influence over how our systems are designed, automated and operated. We are looking for someone who is comfortable investigating difficult problems at operating-system level rather than relying exclusively on management interfaces and predefined tooling. Operate and maintain Debian-based production infrastructure. Maintain and improve shared hosting, email hosting and VPS platforms. Build and operate systems for 1984's new public cloud. Automate provisioning, configuration and recurring operational tasks. Improve monitoring, alerting and observability. Diagnose and resolve complex production incidents. Carry out performance analysis and system tuning. Improve security hardening and operational resilience. Design and maintain deployment, backup and recovery procedures. Reduce manual operational work through automation. Maintain and improve Linux-based services and infrastructure. Contribute to architectural and technical decisions. Work closely with storage, networking and software engineers. Document systems, procedures and operational knowledge.
