Trades jobs in Iceland — what you need to know
Skilled trades are in short supply in Iceland, and employers hire electricians, plumbers, carpenters, welders, mechanics, painters, HVAC and machine technicians from abroad every year. Much of the work is on sites and in workshops where English or a mixed-language team is normal, and a recognised qualification plus solid experience counts far more than Icelandic. Many tradespeople start in a seasonal or project role and are kept on.
Bring your certificates and licences: Iceland recognises many EEA qualifications, and employers will tell you what paperwork a regulated trade needs. Pay is set by collective agreements with proper overtime, and you are entitled to a written contract and payslips from day one.
